News: State Meet
2019
The 4A state meet took place on Saturday November 9th. The team had to wait until the afternoon set of races to toe the line. While the girls set the standard at the school with 18 consecutive trips to the state meet, the boys had higher expectations on this day as they made their 15th trip to the state championship. Both teams were ready for what was sure to be an exciting day of competition.
The 4A boys race was the 1st race of the afternoon session and went off at 2:00. The boys expected to be 1 of 4 teams in the mix for the team title. It would simply come down to which team had the best day out there on this day, but it was not meant to be. 150 meters into the race 3 of our runners went down in a big pileup and, while they battled back throughout the race, the boys were out of the team contention. Thomas Vo earned all-state again and the boys managed a respectable 4th place finish, but it was not the result they hoped for. The team fought hard all race, though, and had an awesome year overall.
The 4A girls race was the 3rd of the 4 afternoon races and the girls were ready after waiting around most of the day for the chance to get out and compete against the state’s best teams. The girls race proved to be comparatively fast overall and the Falcons stepped up with 3 girls setting career PRs and 2 others season bests. The girls finished 14th,but they were pleased with the individual performances.
2019 proved to be another excellent year for Green Hope Cross Country, but the season is still not finished for many of the runners. 37 runners are scheduled to race in one final cross country meet of the year as they will race in the NikeSE Regional on November 30th under the club name Western Cary Track Club. Best of luck to all as they train for 3 more weeks for the chance to race one more time in 2019.
