News: Providence Invitational
2013
The Falcons traveled to Charlotte to run in the Providence Invitational on August 24th. The conditions were very good for an August morning and Green Hope started the invitational season with a bang. More than 50 schools fielded teams for the 4 varsity races and GHXC ended their day with three 1st place finishes and one 2nd place finish.
The first race of the day was the girls varsity race and the Green Hope girls won in convincing fashion. Elly Henes (19:18), Theresa Enright (19:23), Katie Tomasi (19:53), Savannah Lips (20:07), and Sheridan Wood (20:10) led the Falcons to the team victory.
The second race of the day was the boys varsity and the GH guys used a strong 2-5 pack to finish in 2nd place. Tom Nobles once again led the Falcons with a time of 16:00, one second off his PR. Following Tom was a tight group of four Green Hope runners, Brad Pehr (16:49), Will Jordan (16:53), Jonathan Bakley (16:55), and Henry Pehr (16:56). Carter Lux also ran 17:14 to become the 4th fastest GHXC boys freshmen ever.
The third race of the day was the girls JV race, one that is traditionally dominated by the Falcons and this year was no different. Green Hope finished with a perfect score of 15 with 11 of the first 12 finishers in the race that included 305 girls. Kelly Fitzgerald (20:07) outkicked Reilly Caldwell (20:10) to win her second race in as many weeks. Rounding out the 5 scorers were Sarah Taylor (20:20), Sarah Bodmer (20:36), and Elisa Sargent (20:38).
The final race of the day was the boys JV race and the Falcons dominated from start to finish. Corey Colberg (17:42) led the guys with a second place finish and he was followed by Ted MacCabe (4th, 17:58), Matthew Horan (5th, 18:02), Sam Gallant (6th, 18:03), and Jared Eytcheson (7th, 18:05).
Overall the Falcons had many PRs and had a very good weekend. The next big invitational will be September 7th at UNCW.
