The Falcons hosted the Mideast Regional at Wake Med Soccer Park in very cold conditions Saturday, October 26. It was a busy morning as the 4A Mideast Region, 1A Mideast, and 2A Mideast all competed at Wake Med. There is always a lot of pressure on teams when running in the regional meet as the top 4 boys teams and top 4 girls teams (and top 5 individuals not on a top 4 team) at the end of the day advance to the state championship.

The boys ran in the third race of the day and had the race of the year for the team and qualified for the state meet by placing third. Broughton won the race and may be the best team in the state’s history and Apex edged out Green Hope by only 5 points. In terms of times for the boys this was the best single day of racing in GH history as the team earned its first state meet appearance since its state title in 2010. All 7 boys ran a new PR, some by 20 seconds or more.

  • Tom Nobles 15:42 (3rd all-time GH PR)
  • Brad Pehr 16:15
  • Will Jordan 16:19
  • Jonathan Bakley 16:24
  • Henry Pehr 16:25 (2nd all-time GH 10th grade PR)
  • Carter Lux 16:42 (2nd all-time GH 9th grade PR)
  • Michael Kolor 17:11

Great job guys!

The fifth race of the day was the girls 4A race and the temperature was very nice for racing by 11:00. The girls went out and cruised to their 6th consecutive regional title and 8th in history to also qualify for next weekend’s state meet. The girls also ran some very good times, but the highlight of the race was Elisa Sargent’s huge PR as she ran the 9th best 11th grade time in GH history at 18:57.

  • Elly Henes 18:32
  • Katie Tomasi 18:51
  • Elisa Sargent 18:57
  • Reilly Caldwell 19:05
  • Theresa Enright 19:07
  • Sarah Taylor 19:30
  • Savannah Lips 20:03

Thank you to all the parents and athletes who helped pull off another successful regional race. This marked the fifth straight year Green Hope has hosted the 24 team regional meet. It takes a lot of people to pull off such an event. More than anything, a big congratulations to all the athletes who have worked so hard this year and best of luck to both teams at the state meet next weekend.
