The Falcons traveled west on US-64 then north on US-421 to the outskirts of Greensboro at Hagan Stone Park. Roughly 50 Green Hope runners competed in the 31st annual Greensboro Invitational, and the Falcons had another good showing on a beautiful early fall day.

The first race was the JV boys race and the boys continued their undefeated streak on the year. Leading the boys to the team win was Kenny Derek (18:24), Daniel Vo (18:25), Ryan Tsolis (18:25), Jared Kengla (18:34), and Matthew Spivey (18:35). Many of the boys in the race set career PRs and it was a great way to start the day.

The only girls race of the day in Greensboro (many of the girls were racing in Washington, DC) with Green Hope runners was the JV race and once again the girls cruised to the victory. Summer Hanks (20:42) pulled ahead of Lauren McLaughlin (20:45) down the home stretch to win the race, while Julia Zwierzynski (21:08) was not far behind in 3rd place. Shannon Kelly (21:27) and Natsumi Koyama (21:37) rounded out the scoring as the Falcons won the race with a very low score of 17 points.

The boys developmental team (featuring Green Hope's second seven) was up next. The times were not quite what the boys were hoping for, but there was a good pack and the Falcons finished 2nd out of 29 teams. Leading the way were Owen Dreikosen (17:41), Matthew Kehn (17:43), Patrick Stulski (17:44), Brendan Vasarhelyi (17:46), and Stevie Winiecki (18:08).

The last race of the day was the boys championship race. A couple of the boys took it out very hard and the team had a 1-5 split of only 51 seconds as the boys finished 5th overall. Henry Pehr (16:29), Michael Dudash (17:04), Nick Veilleux (17:14), Michael Kolor (17:15), and Brian Huitt (17:20) led the Falcons' scoring.

Saturday marked the start of a big stretch for the Falcons. Saturday, October 4th is the Great American Cross Country Festival at Wake Med, which attracts top teams from all over the southeast. After that race, the team will be nearing its conference championship race on October 15th.
