Congratulations to everyone for a truly great day for GHXC at Wake Med Soccer Park on October 20th in the Tri-9 Championships. The boys and girls JV teams each won for the 9th consecutive year, while the boys varsity also won for the 9th straight year and the girls varsity for the 8th time in 9 years. Up and down the roster there were huge PRs, but here were the highlights:

In the boys JV race, Corey Colberg made a move in the second half of the race and pulled away from the field for a comfortable win with a PR of 17:41. Tommy Sartori also broke 18:00 and the boys won easily with only 2 non-GH runners in the top 14.

In the girls JV race, domination is the first word that comes to mind. The girls had the first 9 runners and 18 of the first 19. The first 5 finishers all broke 21:00 and all set PRs which would be good enough to compete for the conference title in most varsity races around the state. Rose Kim led the way with a time of 20:11 followed by Shannon Scovel in 20:18, Emily Boesch in 20:39, Mackenzie Koeller in 20:45, and Taylor Howard in 20:46.

Ryan Walling led the boys varsity team to a comfortable win (29-53 over Apex) with a time of 15:50 and was followed by Joe Hagan (16:09) and Ben Girodias (16:23). Daniel Glover (16:37), Tom Nobles (16:45), and Logan Cones (16:53) rounded out the top 6, all setting new PRs. It was notable that senior Rishi Simha continued his huge drop in time from the past several weeks (19:03 at Providence, 18:02 at Hagan Stone and a 17:38 today).

Perfection. That is what comes to mind with the girls varsity race. Finishing in positions 1-5 scores a team a perfect score of 15pts in cross country meets. This is rare in dual meets, but almost unheard of in large meets. The girls went 1-6 to score 15 today in the conference championship. As usual, the girls used their strong pack to take the title. Olivia Enright won the conference MVP by running a new GH-best time of 18:24 and was followed closely by Mo McDonnell (18:28), Erica Amatori (18:35), Lauren Colberg (18:39), Jessie Rossabi (18:41), and Sarah Alexander (18:41). Shewit Weldense ran a huge PR of 19:41 and all other GH girls in the race broke 21:00.

Keep up the good work everyone. On to the Mideast Regionals on Saturday October 30th at Wake Med Soccer Park.
